The stock market or the manufacturing wing may seem to be bullish but online retailers like the online shopping big shot Amazon.com boast of decent profit even in tough economic times.
But as change is the only constant in this globe, Amazon.com on Monday announced few changes in a bid to minimize waste and improve their profits. It initiated a new venture that would seek to minimize the amount of materials used towards packing and packaging of the goods that various customers across the globe buy via the amazon.com online shopping portal. Using Amazon.com (reported to be the largest online retailer), one can buy almost anything under the sun, which includes videos, books, cassettes, computer CDs or DVDs or the latest Blu-ray Smart Discs, clothing and apparels, shoes, and musical instruments. You name it and it can be bought at Amazon.com. With such a wide range of products and customers all across the globe, Amazon.com had to send majority of their goods via cargo in airplanes or through ships. And the packaging and packing materials that they were using increases weight, which not only added to the expenses for Amazon.com but also were made up of non-degradable stuffing that were not so friendly to the environment.
Thus the new initiative of reducing the weight of the materials used in the packaging and packing of goods is not only a financial initiative for the big online shopping retailer but also a green venture. They seek to refrain from using the hard plastic covers that could not be cut through without the aid of a sharp knife or with good pair of scissors. This would enable a hassle-free packing for the customers. Thus this initiative from Amazon.com aims to achieve three basic things, viz:
• Reduce costs for Amazon.com
• Turn environmental friendly
• Reduce the frustration of the customers who previously had to cut through the hard plastic to get their hands into the product they ordered.
This initiative is bound to get a lot of attention from media and customers alike. This added attention may help boost the sale of products through Amazon.com. Customers would be happy to receive products in packages that they can open easily.
Amazon.com would benefit in the cut down of weight and the environment would benefit as such a large company would refrain from using non-degradable goods would lead to others following up. What amazon.com assures is that this initiative would not be a short-term one but would be a long term one which may take a few years to completely master in it. The onus now lies on the manufacturers who need to be convinced by Amazon.com to cut down on packaging and packing materials in order for the general good of the customers and environment alike.

Better information of product from verified sources are available online which can be used effectively.
Shopping without any hassle: shopping has never been more convenient. Online shopping portals are open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. So the customers can order for their choice of product at any suitable time. Also good research provides the best deals available for the most apt product. With so much information and facilities available for the buyer, the buyer can buy products with his eyes closed.
